The Washington Department of Corrections might best be understood as a complex web of sub-departments and special interest groups advocating for their own needs, often at the expense of other sub-departments and special interest groups. There are markéd power and resource imbalances among these groups, and the detrimental effects of the disconnects and antagonism among them has been documented in the Office of Corrections Ombuds 2019 Annual Report, among other places. We provide a list of these groups (proper hyperlinking coming soon!) in hopes that a saint of some sort can come along and help these stakeholders identify and constructively achieve shared goals.
